The official stats outlined that in 2023, the United States reported around 436 cases; however, during 2016 and 2017, the nation reported more than 6,000 mumps cases, separately, the reports by newjersey.com claimed.

Along with this, the cases linked to mumps were also found in the Berger County Jail in 2019. The cluster resulted in a quarantine among inmates.

What symptoms are experienced by infected individuals?

The common symptoms experienced by an individual who is suffering from mumps include puffy cheeks, swollen jaws, fever or chills, headache as well and fatigue. Health experts have underlined that the infection can spread and cause issues; however, the majority of people recover within one to two weeks of the infection.

The health authorities have asked to get vaccinated against the infection; the recommendation was provided especially for children. The experts have appealed to get shots of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR vaccine). The proper time to receive the first shot of the vaccine is between 12 to 15 months, and the second shot must be taken at four to six (4 to 6) years.
