United States: The United States is under the umbrella of various diseases, and health experts have been working against various health conditions at present. Recently, the health authorities of the US have sounded alarm about the heightened cases of contagious stomach virus caused by norovirus.

The stomach virus has been spreading across the Northeast region of the United States, leaving many people sick with symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting, as per 6ABC News.

With the increase in the cases associated with norovirus, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has appealed to the general public to stay at home and isolated in order to safeguard other people from getting sick.

What do Americans have to say?

Likia Hagans, an American citizen whose friend recently tested positive for the virus, mentioned, “It’s scary because, at this point, you don’t know what to expect.” Hagans further emphasized that she hopes that she doesn’t fall victim to the virus.

She was further quoted saying, “Constant handwashing, back to masks for most of us. Not being able to do anything about it once you catch it, I think, is the scariest part,” according to the report by 6ABC News.

How did experts address the infection?

Various health experts have shared their concerns regarding the rapid spread of the infection across the regions of the United States. Several doctors have mentioned that the infection becomes contagious quickly for those who are infected.

A gastroenterologist for Jefferson Health – Dr Aaron Martin, stated, “Typically, we think the peak is around one to three days after symptoms come on,” according to the reports by 6ABC.

Health experts have outlined that the symptoms of the virus are easily distinguishable from a cough, cold, or the flu, which are typically “cough, sore throat, usually high fevers. So more so respiratory symptoms as opposed to norovirus, which is gonna be pretty quick onset.”

As per the experts, the virus has been rapidly increasing and is quickly spreading over a few months, and according to the official data, the positivity rates for the virus have risen up to 16 percent in the northeast United States.

Martin, in this regard, mentioned, “Mainly because we’re indoors, close contact with other people. So around this time, we typically see each year.”

Norovirus has become a concern for the health authorities because there is no specific cure for the virus. However, the experts suggest following some preventive measures, including washing hands frequently and wearing face masks.

Additionally, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also shared recommendations that could contribute to a decrease in the risk of the spread of infection. According to the experts of the CDC, an infected individual must stay isolated for at least 48 hours even after the symptoms stop.

In addition to this, health practitioners have also recommended keeping a distance from people who are vulnerable and can easily get sick, including children, the elderly, and those who are suffering from any health condition.
