United States: The cases related to COVID-19 have been increasing at an inestimable pace in the United States. Therefore, the health authorities have been advising people to start following the precautionary measures to protect themselves against the disease. 

One such warning has been issued by the health officials of a county in Northern California – Yolo, who has been asking the residents and citizens to mask up and get vaccinated, according to CBS News. 

The Yolo County Public Health released an advisory last week and outlined that the official data shows that the United States has been reporting high levels of the COVID-19 virus in wastewater. Along with this, the local health officials showed concerns related to the high levels of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). 

Increased COVID-19 cases in Northern California

The concerns and worries among the health authorities have been increasing because of the upsurge of COVID-19 cases in Northern California, according to the reports by CBS13.

Further, the health authorities believed that the major driver behind the spike is the new subvariant of COVID-19 – named JN.1. 

Statement by the health expert!

Public Health Officer of Yolo County, Dr Aimme Sisson, addressed the general public through a statement that emphasized that people must wear high-quality masks. Sisson can be quoted saying, “I recommend that everybody in the community take steps to protect themselves from infection, including wearing a high-quality mask when indoors around others.

The reports have outlined that COVID-19 is also responsible for increased hospitalizations across the states. However, the highest number of hospital admissions, according to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, were reported among several Northern California counties – including Yolo. 

As per the reports by the health authorities, as many as 246 COVID-19-infected people were hospitalized, and the major contributors were from Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, and Yolo. 

Mask mandates in other counties of California

Earlier, after expecting an increase in COVID-19-related activities, the health experts of Marin County announced that face masks will be mandatory across the region until March 2024. Accordingly, it was a proactive move by the authorities to combat the disease during initial times. 

The announced rule was especially focused on those who were entering the hospitals, irrespective of their vaccination status.
