Washington DC, United States: During the visit to Tel Aviv, US President Joe Biden announced that he will be supporting a two-state solution. He underscored that his administration will be focusing on the civilians of both countries – Palestinians and Israel.

Biden mentioned that the general public of the countries should live safely and securely in peace, with dignity. While stating all this, he further announced financial assistance of US$ 100 million as humanitarian aid for Gaza and the West Bank.

This announcement was also shared by the White House and President Joe Biden through X, formerly known as Twitter. Through the official post, the President also shared, “Let me make myself clear: The vast majority of Palestinians are not Hamas. And Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people.”

According to the reports, this statement was made by Biden following his meeting with the Prime Minister of Israel – Benjamin Netanyahu. He was quoted saying, “We must keep pursuing peace.”

Biden further said, “We must keep pursuing a path so that Israel and the Palestinian people can both live safely and securely in dignity and in peace,” adding, “For me, that means a two-state solution.”

In addition to this, he outlined that the recent attacks in Gaza have forced him to put efforts into promoting a two-state solution. Biden underscored, “We must keep working for Israel’s greater integration with its neighbors. These attacks have only strengthened my commitment and determination and my will to get that done.”

What is the ‘two-state’ solution

According to various reports, the best solution for lasting peace will be two-state – an independent Palestinian state and Israel. But, one of the biggest obstacles to this is the border between both states.

The appeal for two-state has been backed by many regional as well as international organizations. On Wednesday, October 17, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, through a released statement, mentioned that it would support the formation of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state. It further underscored that Al-Quds, or East Jerusalem, can be regarded as its capital.

Update on Israel-Hamas attack

Hamas, a Palestinian-aided Terrorist Group, attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. It was a multi-front attack, from land, sea and the air. Following the attack, Israel launched continuous air raids on Hamas-ruled region. Reportedly, the airstrikes have killed around 3,500 people in Palestine, and the count of injured has reached 12,065.

According to the Defence Forces and the Health Ministry of Israel, more than 1,400 people have lost their lives because of this attack.

The situation in the region is deteriorating with each passing day. Recently, an attack on the Gaza City Hospital, which killed nearly 500 people, has made it even worse.

In addition to continuous bombardments, Gaza is also dealing with food and water crises as the important sources, such as food, water, electricity and fuel, are also near completion.

However, President Biden, following the meeting with the Israeli PM, announced the nation has agreed to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza from Egypt.
